ALL MI MOVIES RANKED

“Fate whispers to the
warrior, a storm is coming. And the warrior whispers back…”
"I am the storm"
Now that the Final
Reckoning is out and about playing in the theatres, I can finally rank all 8
mission impossible movies in order. Although in all honesty, a lot of you may
not agree with my number one choice, but hey, to each it’s own. So, let’s
begin…Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to read the entire
article and comment your own list below! This message will not self-destruct in
5 seconds because we are on the internet.
8) Mission: Impossible 2
I think this may be the
only one on the list for which we can all agree with the numbering. In fact if
I was Tom Cruise (I wish), I would disown this film from the franchise. It made
absolutely no sense. The entire movie was insufferable, the action sequences
looked forced and worst of all, Ethan Hunt’s entire personality was changed. And
on top of that, it doesn’t even add anything to the franchise. Even if you skip
this and watch all the other movies, it’ll make perfect sense.
In all honesty, Mission:
Impossible 2 felt like a cheap rip off of the Mission: Impossible franchise. It
felt like a parody of itself. No offence to the filmmakers, actors and anyone
who worked on the film!
7) Mission: Impossible 3
Okay now the real list
starts. It is very difficult to rank all the mission impossible movies, mainly because from now on, all of the films were absolutely marvelous.
The only reason Mission:
Impossible 3 is on number 7 is because with each film, they outdo themselves
and make the franchise better. The one thing I especially liked about this film
was the villain. Philip Seymour Hoffman makes a memorable bad guy. He doesn’t
need a lot of dialogue. It’s his expressions that speak. So much so that you
actually begin hating the character.
And of course, kudos to
the filmmakers that they thought ahead of their time. When you watch Final
Reckoning you realise why story writing and planning out the franchise is
important.
6) Mission: Impossible
The one where everything
started. Originally a reboot of the TV series of the same name, who knew that
this movie would go on to become one of the biggest movie franchises in the
world. It was also responsible for launching Tom Cruise as an action hero.
The thing about Mission:
Impossible is that it was something fresh. Generally people were only exposed
to James Bond or Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan when they thought of spy movies. But
Paramount Pictures decided to give the audience something new. Something pumps
adrenaline in your veins.
And of course, the heist
scene of that CIA vault will go down in cinema as one of the most iconic scenes
in film history.
5) Mission: Impossible –
Rogue Nation
Again, a very memorable
villain is why I like this movie. Sean Harris makes your blood go cold with the
way he speaks and commits atrocities in the movie.
By the time Rogue Nation
came out, it was very well established that Tom Cruise would never stop amusing
the audience with his death-defying stunts. Hanging off the side of a plane is
crazy!
And this movie was also
responsible for giving Cruise an opportunity to mark a world record where he
holds his breath for 6 minutes! Although it was later on broken by Kate Winslet
to a staggering 7 minutes 15 seconds for Avatar: The Way of Water.
4) Final Reckoning
So far you may have
agreed with my list but from here on, it gets a little crazy.
The newest one and the
longest one in the franchise – Final Reckoning. I liked this movie so much that
I went to see it twice, something which I have never done before. The marketing
done for this movie was insane. And what I loved about it was how they took the
fans up to speed by showing flashbacks from previous movies.
Maybe it lacked a little
Ethan Hunt charm and the iconic MI music, but Final Reckoning still stands tall
amongst this list of frenzy spy movies. Another thing I loved about this movie
was how accurate it was about AI. It was a sort of Final Warning against the
misuse of artificial intelligence and acts as a precursor to the fall of
humanity on the backdrop of the coming of AGI. You can clearly see which side
it is on regarding the long standing debate of AI’s impact on jobs. But hey, at
the end of the day you’re just going in there to have fun, not to ponder over
humanity’s future.
3) Mission: Impossible –
Dead Reckoning Part One
I think a lot of people
with agree with me on this one. Final Reckoning may have acted as a last
goodbye but it wasn’t the best one in the franchise. Nor was it better than
it’s predecessor which is Dead Reckoning.
Personally, I feel Final
Reckoning lacked a few jokes and style. Something which Dead Reckoning managed
to do while at the same time being serious and emotional. This is the only
reason why I have placed it on number 3. Otherwise, as always, Tom Cruise leaves
the fans stunned with his death-defying jump from a bike over a mountain. One
can only imagine how much efforts and budget it required just to get it right.
The fans failed this
movie as it did not perform all too well at the box office. The only reason was
because it got caught up in the crossfire of Barbenheimer. Maybe this time we
can do justice with Final Reckoning.
2) Mission: Impossible –
Fallout
Alright I get it. To
some people this movie is supposed to be the best Mission: Impossible movie out
there. And I am inclined to agree with you. Almost.
I loved Fallout too. It
had everything you need in a Mission: Impossible movie. Stunts, music, style,
comedy, emotion, good story, good villain, etc. Maybe if they did not make
Ghost Protocol, this one would have been on top.
1) Mission: Impossible –
Ghost Protocol
When I was a kid, I
hadn’t watched this movie purely because of its title. I thought it was a
horror movie. Of course when I grew up and did watch it, it was the exact
opposite of a horror movie.
Ghost Protocol came out
when the Mission: Impossible franchise was dying out. The first 3 movies were
good but everyone thought it ended there. Just a trilogy of spy movies which
would probably be forgotten soon enough. But fate had other plans.
Ghost Protocol was by
far the best Mission: Impossible movie of all time because it started this
trend of Tom Cruise risking his life to give the audience a glimpse of a good
stunt. Playing around with the Burj Khalifa was something Hollywood had never done
before. It also was much more light hearted as compared to it’s successors. And
it had the style which I keep talking about. It also helps the fact that they
shot a lot of this movie in Mumbai which is why I am inclined to keep it on the
number one spot. Anil Kapoor in a Mission: Impossible movie is what everyone
needed and deserved.
So folks, that was it
from my side. What do you think about this list? Do you agree or do you have
something else in mind? Let me know in the comments!
