HAPPY BATMAN DAY
HAPPY BATMAN DAY
Today is Batman day folks. So, I wish a Happy Batman
Day to everyone reading this. What is the significance of this day you ask?
Well, it is an annual event organized by DC Comics to celebrate this famed
superhero. It was first commemorated on 23rd July, 2014 as a part of
the 75th anniversary of Batman. And since then, it has been
celebrated on the third Saturday of every year’s September. Today marks the 85th
year of the existence of the infamous Dark Knight! And in honour of Batman day,
I will be ranking the best versions of the live action appearances of Batman
played by different actors over the years.
7) Val Kilmer
Alright, I’ll be fair. Maybe not the worst version of
Batman ever but somehow he doesn’t suit. When you think about the idea of Val
Kilmer playing a deep and dark character such as Batman, it seems exciting. But
somehow when you actually see him on screen, it doesn’t fit.
Val Kilmer is not a bad actor by a long shot. I love
him and he has portrayed versatility and really captured the essence of the
character in many movies. But somehow, Batman doesn’t fit. It also doesn’t help
the fact that the movie itself was very forgettable.
6) George Clooney
Again, I love George Clooney. He is the definition of
charm and certainly one of the most handsome men in the entire world. And after
seeing his role as Danny Ocean in the Ocean’s trilogy one would expect that he would
easily pull off the greatest Bruce Wayne role ever. I mean, the man was
literally made to play Bruce Wayne. Eccentric billionaire, ladies man, and a
walking hunk of charm.
But just like Val Kilmer, it doesn’t help the fact
that the movie as well as the suit was made into a laughing stock. And George
Clooney may have pulled off Bruce Wayne but he certainly could not pull of
Batman. Then again, I’m being a hypocrite but I did jump around when I saw his
cameo in The Flash.
5) Adam West
Adam West was the man. He made Batman popular. Had his
movies not worked, the Caped Crusader would not have been such an iconic figure
in human history. I particularly don’t like his portrayal too much because it
wasn’t a very serious portrayal. There were a lot of jokes and his suit was
also very light coloured. That didn’t feel like Batman at times.
Nevertheless, he did a great job of making the
character popular. For that time and that generation, maybe a dark and scary
version of a superhero movie would not have worked. They needed something light
hearted and funny. Besides, you have to give him credit for the iconic dance
scene.
4) Ben Affleck
Bad writing and bad execution is what failed Ben
Affleck. Personally, I don’t think any director in the DCEU understood Batman
perfectly. They made him smile, fight in daylight and act foolish in front of
Wonder Woman. That is not Batman. Zack Snyder even let him break the no-kill
rule.
Batman was annihilated by the DCEU. But I do not think
that Ben Affleck is at fault here. When it was required, he put on a serious
face and gave us a performance. “Men are brave” gives me chills every time I
watch it. He might have put a little more effort in Batman and less in Bruce
Wayne but he still deserves to be on number four.
3) Michael Keaton
When you look at Michael Keaton, you could, never in a
hundred years, think that he would be hired to play such a role. But he was.
And he did more than he had to. Something about his performance feels right. He
just hits the perfect spot and makes himself likable.
In fact, when it was announced that he would play this
role, DC faced a lot of backlash (which is now a trend with every new casting
announcement). But he shut the haters right up with his suave charm and
brooding stares. Although the suit now looks ridiculous, this version of Batman
is certainly very iconic and I am thankful that they decided to get him back
for The Flash movie.
2) Robert Pattinson
The best version of Batman ever. He is just the right
amount of brood and darkness. And as an actor, Robert Pattinson has a lot of
potential. He has done some very crazy and versatile roles. From the chocolate
boyish vampire in Twilight to a mad and twisted sailor in The Lighthouse, he
was definitely the perfect choice to play Batman. And he especially gave us one
of the most iconic scenes in cinema – the “I’m vengeance” line.
Although his portrayal of Bruce Wayne was not comic
accurate at all, I still liked it. He did something different. Generally, Bruce
Wayne is the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. But this version of
him is a very depressed and hopeless recluse. And somehow, considering the tone
of the movie, it actually fits perfectly. Battinson is the only Batman that I
have extremely high hopes for. Let’s see what else Matt Reeves has in store for
us.
1) Christian Bale
I think all of you saw this coming from a mile away. I
don’t really need to elaborate more on this man since he is a fan favourite.
The Dark Knight trilogy was just perfect. Down to the last bit. There was
nothing in those movies that you wouldn’t like. And of course, Christian Bale
owns this role. He perfectly balances the Bruce Wayne persona with the Batman.
He doesn’t let the depression get to Wayne neither the charm to Batman.
Probably the only thing that Christopher Nolan did not
do perfectly was the voice. But somehow, even the voice has its own fan base.
“WHERE IS SHE?!”
So that was it for Batman Day everyone. Hope my list was accurate and you enjoyed reading it. Do keep your eyes and ears open as more posts are about to come soon!
Guess I have to watch all other movies as well. I'm totally a Dark Knight fan:)
